Here’s how to make a felt applique red race car. Get some felt, some pins, scissors, tracing paper, pencil, thread and needle and let’s get going!
Click here to download a pdf of the race car. This car is sized 25″ x 12″ but feel free to resize it. Use the local office store’s print center, I recommend having them print a color engineering print because they are cheaper and on thin paper so you can cut them up easily. After you have your print sketch it with tracing paper and put it over some felt, like so:
Pin that tracing paper design over your black felt. Cut that baby out!
Take that tracing paper off and it use to to trace just the red side panel of the car. Lay that over some red felt. BLAM!
Pin the tracing paper to the red felt, cut it out and remove the tracing paper. Lay the red sign panel over the black felt outline you cut earlier. Repeat this process for all the forms on the race car (in the order below). I would recommend using your library to get an audio book and listen to something good while you are working with your hands. The combination of the two things will bring you unexpected thoughts and ideas.
Now glue this sucker down! You don’t need to go nuts with the glue, just little dabs. After that get out your needle and thread and sew it all down. Once again you will have some time listen while you work. This is a good time to listen to some local sports on the radio or your favorite podcast. Smaller chunks of audio entertainment will allow you keep abreast of time, each half hour spurt will make you look at the clock.
Once you have it all sewed down feel free to add it to a felt background and make it a banner or sew it the back of a jacket for a one of kind fashion statement.
